Caring for your baby: Doing What’s Required.
Looking after a baby during the first months of his or her life can be extremely demanding. Although babies have the same needs as everyone else, the very fact that we have to provide for them 24 hours a day can really take its toll on us as parents, but no matter how tired we get the fact remains that baby needs a lot of care. Starting As You Mean To Go On
First things first when caring for your baby, you have to start as you mean to go on and get into some sort of routine that benefits you all. Dealing with you first, parents, and especially first time parents, can find it difficult to have a few minutes for them and this can lead to fatigue, stress and post natal depression in the case of the mother. As such, it’s important to share the responsibilities between mum and dad and also get the grandparents involved if possible. That way, both mum and dad can have a well-deserved break and a little time to themselves. This undoubtedly contributes to the care of baby and will make it a much happier home. Feeding, sleeping, putting nappies on, burping, bathing, dressing and any other number of elements come under the care of new parents looking after a newborn baby so there’s a lot to think about. However, you’ll soon get into a routine. There are some basics you should be aware of though. For example, holding the baby is easy to get wrong initially, but you’ll soon get the hang of it. It’s important to support the neck and head of the baby whenever you pick him or her up. Hold the head of the baby in the palm of your hand when you pick him or her up and then nestle it in the crook of your arm when holding baby comfortably. You should never shake the baby or rock him or her too vigorously either because this could lead to permanent damage.
There are plenty of hints and tips that you can take on board to help you through the first months. After all, it’ll all seem easy when your baby hits the terrible twos!
